6LACK is an American singer, songwriter and rapper known for his emotionally honest lyricism, blending elements of trap, soul and melodic rap to create a brooding, introspective sound that resonates with fans worldwide. Over the years, 6LACK’s list of collaborators has been something of a who’s who, from Selena Gomez, Young Thug and Future, to Elton John, Gorillaz and Khalid.

Adopting the moniker 6LACK (pronounced "Black") as a nod to the Zone Six neighbourhood in East Atlanta where he grew up, Ricardo Valdez Valentine Jr. had spent years honing his craft before his breakout single 'PRBLMS' transformed his career in 2016. The moody trap-soul track quickly became a viral success, earning critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Performance. His debut studio album, FREE 6LACK, soon landed with equal acclaim, praised for its late night atmosphere and honest storytelling surrounding both his professional and personal relationships. The album would peak at No.5 on Billboard's Top Rap Albums chart and later reached platinum certification.

Following the success of his debut, 6LACK released his sophomore album, East Atlanta Love Letter, in 2018. Featuring collaborations with artists such as J. Cole, Khalid and Future, alongside tracks including 'Switch', 'Nonchalant' and 'Seasons', the album documented a new chapter in his life, shaped by newfound fame and fatherhood.

The gloomy ambience that had once defined 6LACK's style of alt. R&B seemed to lift with the release of Since I Have A Lover in 2023. "Being in a good place made me want to talk about good things," he told Complex following the album's release – a sentiment reflected by a newfound brightness and buoyancy in the record's guitar-leaning production. Including 'Temporary (feat. Don Toliver)' and 'Inwood Hill Park', the 19-track album is widely considered 6LACK's most mature and personal release to-date.

As his music continues to evolve alongside world tours and major collaborations, 6LACK remains one of the most distinctive voices in modern R&B and alternative hip-hop.
