Irish National Opera presents Tchaikovsky's 'Eugene Onegin'

A co-production with Opera North and Opera Queensland, Irish National Opera presents Tchaikovsky’s lush, lyrical masterpiece Eugene Onegin, a searing tale of unrequited love, devastating mistakes and missed chances.

Young and impetuous, Tatyana naïvely declares her passionate love for the handsome, cynical Onegin who immediately rejects her. Many years later Onegin realises he loves her and bitterly regrets his decision. Acclaimed Irish soprano Jennifer Davis (Rusalka 2026 and Faust 2023) and American baritone Sean Michael Plumb as the star-crossed leads.

Maltese mezzo-soprano Marvic Monreal is Tatyana’s sister Olga, with American tenor Evan LeRoy Johnson as Olga’s fiancée Lensky and American bass James Creswell as Prince Gremin.

Under the baton of INO’s Artistic Director Fergus Sheil, Tchaikovsky’s score reveals his instinctive gift for melody, especially in Tatyana’s famous Letter Scene, and the composer’s command of dance in both rural and sophisticated socialite settings.

Eugene Onegin is directed by Patrick Nolan, with set design by Lesley Travers, costume design by Elizabeth Gadsby, lighting design by Malcolm Rippeth, and choreography by Maxine Braham. Featuring the Irish National Opera Orchestra and Chorus.

Eugene Onegin is sung in Russian with English surtitles.
