About

AURORA and Tom Rowlands join forces for TOMORA

Instinct is the force that powers TOMORA, a new collaboration between The Chemical Brothers’ Tom Rowlands and Norwegian pop hero AURORA. This has been a partnership years in the making; now is the time to follow that shared instinct.

“This is the music that I've been waiting to make,” AURORA excitedly says about the collaboration. “The hardness with the soft, the ugly with the beautiful in the music. It’s about connection. And the first connection in TOMORA is between us. it was our own world, and one that only exists when me and Tom meet and we create something together. Together, we catch everything. It’s a band. And it will always be that.”

As one half of The Chemical Brothers alongside Ed Simons, Rowlands has defined the sound of British dance music with six U.K. No. 1 Albums and festival headline slots all over the globe. The duo are three-times winner of the Grammy award for Best Electronic/Dance album (Push The Button, 2006; We Are The Night, 2008; No Geography, 2019), and have enlisted artists like Q-Tip, Noel Gallagher, Beck, St Vincent and many more to feature on their work.

A young AURORA was enraptured by the duo’s music from an early age, notably the soundtrack to 2011 film HANNA. She channeled this influence into a unique brand of alt-pop evident across her four studio albums: 2016’s All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend; 2018’s two-parter Infections of a Different Kind (Step 1) and A Different Kind of Human (Step 2); 2022’s The Gods We Can Touch; and 2024’s What Happened To The Heart?. She has drawn praise from Billie Eilish, SZA, and Doja Cat, while being recognised as one of Norway’s most influential and popular modern musicians at the P3 Gull awards.

Inevitably, their worlds would collide. AURORA featured on three songs on The Chemical Brothers’ critically-acclaimed 2019 LP No Geography including punishing opener “Eve of Destruction” and helped the duo reach a new generation of ravers. Pitchfork called the LP their most “entertaining in years,” while NME said the album put them “light years ahead of their peers.” Rowlands later returned the favour with contributions to AURORA’s U.K. top 10 2024 LP What Happened to the Heart?, but there was unfinished business there – a connection established and soon to be expanded even further.

COME CLOSER, the pair’s debut LP as TOMORA, is less two separate artists finding a fertile middle ground, and more the sound of a tenacious duo hitting their creative peaks. Across the twelve track album, intense and emotional lyrics are paired with some of the most inventive beats and soundscapes that either Tom or AURORA have ever worked with.
